Glen Vita Anima – A Greenway of Healing

Thesis Statement

My studies have drawn me to explore the understanding of the restorative nature of a well designed and healthy environmental space, where a narrative can lead people through a nurturing path to a well state of mind. “Few of the fundamental standards of psychotherapeutic techniques include practices or activities that enhance ourselves to be vital and productive, and not bear disgrace and blame. We have to figure out how to deal with it and proceed onwards; an approach to pardon ourselves as a general population.” (Riaz 1) Walking in each other’s footsteps immerses us in a shared perspective, we see shared experiences. Shared experiences, especially positive, are binds that seemingly sew our minds into the same fabric of space-time.

“Evolution has led to an environmentally friendly solution to the interaction of the body and its environment. Currently, architects and engineers are trying to solve the processes of environmental design approaches.” (Tsitman) A well constructed and balanced environment serves as a support lattice into which symbiotic systems of plants and animals can take root. I have developed the designs of a “greenway” parking system entitled “Glen Vita Anima,” a semi-permanent block of space to be situated between commuter travel avenues and commerce spaces. This circuitous pathway is layered with garden habitat for flora and fauna, walking the viewer through a living story, with four sculptural pauses that tell a story of remembrance, restoration and determination.

“Glen Vita Anima” is meant to be a safe harbor for all life that can be layered into it. The park is a  system of conscious effort that can be echoed in multiple environmental types, in order to coordinate with the latitudes and longitudes in which the greenway can be seen to positively influence the community that supports and utilizes it. “Though one can identify threats such as road construction, expanding agriculture, and temple construction as proximate drivers of change in these cultural landscapes, ultimate drivers include culturally inappropriate modernization, and the erosion of traditional belief systems coupled with the larger overall forces of development, urbanization, and rampant deforestation.” (Ankur 22) My research into the restoration of space and its healing effect of mind, body, and environment as a system has helped me to connect the constructed space as a designated zone of maintaining natural elements in the world where developments can encroach not simply into our spaces, but also into the core tenants of our philosophy.

Rendered Well

This project was completed using physical hand sculptures, live human digital scans, photogrammetry, and a number of other techniques. Glen Vita Anima was designed through Earth, rendered in Unreal 5 and crafted in Maya. I’d like to offer a special thanks to my friends, family and instructors who made this thesis project possible.
